2021 Summer Reading List for OIB Students (for literature class with H. SHALL)

Welcome to new students and the Lycée Edouard Branly tradition of holiday reading!

  • All students must purchase and read the following books over the summer, depending on the year group you will be joining in September
  • Highlight interesting passages and take notes as you read through the novels.

Students entering Seconde OIB GROUP:

Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones

Girl,Woman,Other by Bernardine Evaristo

Students entering Première OIB GROUP:

Orlando by Virginia Woolf

The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid

The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

Students entering Terminale OIB group:

A Sicilian Romance by Anne Radcliffe

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Reading, Reading, and More Reading!

Success in the OIB section depends, in no small measure, on a student’s fluency and range of vocabulary.  There is no better way to gain fluency in English than by reading.  Students MUST get in the habit of regular reading: not only novels, but also news articles (eg. Guardian website), short stories, biographies, history, travel writing, etc.

You may also enjoy exploring podcasts on BBC radio about topics and authors you will be studying in English class : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio . Another source for general culture and current issues is NPR Podcasts: http://www.npr.org/podcasts/ .

With all best wishes for an enjoyable summer from Helen Shall
